Moutonshoek’s blue blooded Galileo sire The United States had a weekend to remember this past week.
The United States came up with four winners over the weekend, with this quartet including an impressive debut winner.
His first success came when his son Palancar romped home to win Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Open Maiden Plate (1300m) at Fairview.
Under Marco Van Rensburg, the Cliffie Miller trained gelding stormed home to shed his maiden by a length and three quarters.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Palancar, who races for Vendel Civils (Pty) Ltd, was an R850 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
The gelding is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Carrie Bow Cay.
The United States had success in both Mauritius and South Africa on Saturday.
His son Spirit’s Unite ran out a very impressive winner in Mauritius, while another son, Pinot Grigio, caught the eye when he won at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
The Ricky Maingard trained colt made it two wins from his last four starts when he prevailed in a thrilling finish to win the Remembering Barry Donnelly Middle Stakes (1600m) by a long neck.
Another bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the four-year-old was ridden to victory by Brevan Plaatjies. Pinot Grigio, bred on the same cross as the stakes winning Khaya’s Hope, has won three of ten starts and been unplaced just twice. Saturday’s winner races forMessrs D K Bundhoo, G P C Glover & M H Maingard & Mrs M M M Bundhoo.
The Moutonshoek resident also looks to have a promising three-year-old in the form of Cowboy Country.
The latter made a big impression when he made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.
Trained by Tony Rivalland, Cowboy Country stormed home, under Jabu Jacobs, to score by just under a length and a quarter.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Cowboy Country races for Mrs M D J Liley, Messrs L M Nestadt & Gary Player Stud Farm (Pty) Ltd.
