Weekend treble for Jay Peg

22nd Oct 2018

The Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud based Equus Champion Jay Peg enjoyed another fruitful weekend this past week, when responsible for a trio of winners.

Jay Peg

Jay Peg’s winning treble was made up of two local South African winners and one winner in Mauritius.
His high class son Royal Armour, who was bred by the Waterford Stud, made it win number eight when he scored a half length win over 1200m at Greyville on Friday night.

The gelding, who is trained by Lezeanne Forbes, was well ridden by Mark Khan, with the latter keeping Royal Armour going over the closing stages of the MR81 handicap to deny favourite Monte Christo victory by half a length.

Runner up in the 2017 G3 Kings Cup, Royal Armour has now banked more than R600 000 in prize money.

The gelding, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Royal Palm, is from the same family as Jay Peg himself and is thus inbred to the mare Leucothea (he is also inbred to Elliodor).

Jay Peg’s second South African winner over the weekend came when daughter Missy J shed her maiden over 1000m at Greyville on Sunday. The Paul Gadsby trained filly was bred by the Ten Einde Farm.
Missy J, who is out of the Captain Al mare Mile High, is bred on the same Jay Peg/Captain Al cross as graded stakes winners Flash Drive and Hot Affair.

Jay Peg’s Exit Here

A grandson of A P Indy, Jay Peg also enjoyed success in Mauritius on Saturday when his son Royal Resolution romped home over 1600m.

The sire of numerous graded stakes winners including Silicone Valley, Wolyarine, Exit Here and Peggy Jay, Jay Peg has a single lot on offer at the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Sale. This is a filly (Lot 19) whose winning Canny Lad sired dam is a three-parts sister to Australian multiple G1 winner Dodge.
