Weekend treble for July winning champion

29th Oct 2018

The Ascot Stud bred and based Bold Silvano enjoyed a great season in 2017-2018 and the former Equus Champion appears on track to enjoy another good year in 2018-2019.

Bold Silvano

Bold Silvano, one of four July winners sired by multiple champion South African sire Silvano, had a pair of winners in South Africa over the weekend, while his son Raheeb scored over 990 metres at Champ De Mars on Sunday.

His smart 3yo daughter Klever Kathy romped home to score a 2.35 length win over 1400m for trainer Gavin Smith and jockey Muzi Yeni at Fairview on Friday. Bred by the Riyo Stud, the filly, who has now won or placed in nine of 11 outings,  was one of the better 2yo fillies in the Eastern Cape last season, when Klever Kathy ran third, to subsequent East Cape champion Madame Speaker, in the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.

Bold Silvano is also responsible for another smart 3yo filly in the form of March Music. The latter, who had been second in last season’s Lady’s Slipper Stakes, caught the eye when a close up second in Friday’s Listed Racing Association Stakes, when beaten just a neck –and beating the likes of Madame Speaker and Langerman second Frank Lloyd Wright. The consistent Ascot Stud bred 3yo has now won or placed in all seven outings, and has been second in each of her last three outings.

Bold Silvano had just one runner at Greyville on Sunday, but the sire enjoyed a 100% strike rate on the day when his daughter Bon Bon picked up the fourth win of her career, when prevailing in a thrilling finish to a fillies and mares handicap over 1400m. Trained by Glen Kotzen, the 5yo was bred by the Riyo Stud and she has now won or placed in 14 races.

Bold Respect

South Africa’s Equus Champion Middle Distance Horse of 2010, Bold Silvano enjoyed a great run last season when his star representatives included Bold Respect (G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint, Listed In Full Flight Handicap) and Bold Eagle (G3 Protea Stakes, Listed Storm Bird Stakes).

Winner of the 2010 Vodacom Durban July, Bold Silvano’s other notable performers include Guineas hero Flasher On The Run and the Dubai based Bold Rex.
