Weekend treble for Twice Over

29th Aug 2022

Klawervlei Stud’s four time G1 winning sire Twice Over has made a bright start to the 2022-2023 racing season, and the former European champion had another good weekend this past week when Twice Over supplied a trio of winners at three different racetracks.

Arguably Twice Over’s most impressive success over the past weekend came when his three-year-old son Triple Time scored an eye catching win at Kenilworth on Sunday.
Trained, like his sire’s champion son Do It Again, by Justin Snaith, Triple Time, who was making just his second career start on Sunday, was slow away in Sunday’s Tabonline.co.za Maiden Plate (1400m).
However, the flashy grey sliced his way through the field, under a well timed ride from Richard Fourie, to win going away by four and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Triple Time had finished fifth on his only previous outing. The promising three-year-old was a R700 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Twice Over also enjoyed success at Hollywoodbets Scottsville a day earlier when his Listed The Lighthouse Foundation Devon Air Stakes winning daughter Twice The Trip bounced back to score over 1400m, while another daughter of the sire, Back To Formentera, broke her maiden when she won over 1200m at Fairview on Friday.
Twice Over is also very closely related to Sunday’s G3 Prix Quincey winner Tempus. The latter, who was winning his third race on a row in Sunday, is out of G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Passage Of Time -whose dam is a half-sister to Twice Over’s Lingfield Oaks Trial winning dam Double Crossed.
