Sent off tote favourite for Friday’s R150 000 sprint, the Alan Greeff trained Glacier Gold lived up to her pre-race billing with a courageous win in the 2022 Milkwood Stakes.

Under Greg Cheyne, four-year-old Glacier Gold came with a strong late run in the Milkwood Stakes, before fending off a late challenge from eventual runner up Franca and win a shade cosily by a head.

The 2022 Milkwood Stakes was a double triumph for What A Winter, who is also the sire of third place finisher Winter Mosaic

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Glacier Gold had finished third over 1000m on her previous outing having reeled off a hatrick of wins prior to that effort.

The filly is out of the Fort Wood mare Himalayan Hill and she is thus bred on the same What A Winter/Fort Wood cross as Listed East Cape Nursery winner Fort Winter.

Glacier Gold has now won six of 19 starts, with the consistent filly finishing out of the placings on just three occasions thus far.

She joins the likes of dual G1 Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold, and the likes of Miss Cool, Magical Wonderland, Winter Smoke, Celestial Love, Hello Winter Hello and Sarah as stakes winning daughters of What A Winter.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2020-2021, What A Winter has two lots on the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale and a further three lots on this year’s KZN Yearling Sale.
