Drakenstein Stud’s prominent stallion What A Winter enjoyed yet more big race success when his promising two-year-old daughter Miss Cool captured the G2 Heineken SA Nursery (1160m) at Turffontein on Saturday.
A second graded winner on the day for trainer Paul Peter, Miss Cool joined a list of some star fillies to have won the SA Nursery when she won Saturday’s R400 000 race.

Under Gavin Lerena, Miss Cool pulled clear in the closing stages of the SA Nursery to claim her first graded win by an easy three and three quarter lengths.

Bred by Mike Jolly Racing, Miss Cool, a filly with a beautiful action, has now won three of just six starts, with the What A Winter daughter having won three of her last four starts.

Out of the Miesque’s Approval mare French Rose, Miss Cool was a R60 000 buy from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Miss Cool, one of two runners in the SA Nursery for her sire, is the 18th stakes winner for What A Winter, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2020-2021. Miss Cool joins the likes of Armando, Clouds Unfold, Dutch Philip and Snow Report as a graded stakes winning two-year-old sired by What A Winter.

What A Winter also enjoyed notable success at the 2022 National Yearling Sale, where his yearlings made up to R500 000.
