Brilliant filly Alpha Centauri, whose granddam East Of The Moon is a half-sister to Varsfontein Stud’s successful stallion Judpot, was rated joint 11th on the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2018, which was announced at a ceremony on Wednesday.
She was given a rating of 124 which places her above such G1 winners as Battaash, Benbatl, Cloth Of Stars, Catholic Boy, Thunder Snow and Good Magic.
Named Cartier Champion 3YO Filly of 2018, the now retired Alpha Centauri won six of ten outings and banked over £1.2 million in stakes.
The grey daughter of Mastercraftsman reeled off four G1 wins on the trot last year, with Alpha Centauri winning all of the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes, Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes and Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois in 2018.
Her granddam East Of The Moon, a half-sister to not only Judpot but also the breed shaping stallion Kingmambo, won four of her eight starts including the G1 French 1000 Guineas and Oaks of 1994.
Judpot, a son of legendary US stallion A P Indy, is a well established stallion (and former Equus Outstanding Stallion) whose progeny include the G1 winners Along Came Polly, Coral Fever, Forest Indigo and Juxtapose.
