Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi was responsible for a trio of winners in South Africa over the past weekend, with his runners also putting up pleasing efforts in several feature races.
Trippi’s two-year-old daughter Vandah’s Spirit showed her class when romping home to a four length success in a juvenile plate for fillies over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The Klawervlei Stud bred filly, one of three winners on the card for trainer Candice Bass-Robinson and jockey Aldo Domeyer, looked a feature race contender in the making on Saturday with Vandah’s Spirit having now won two of her three races to date.
A smart winner on debut, Vandah’s Spirit (a full-sister to Storm Bird Stakes winner Flying Myth) was a R325 000 buy from the 2018 April Yearling Sale.
Vandah’s Spirit was one of two local winners on Saturday for Trippi, whose classy daughter Railtrip registered a 5.7 length romp at Turffontein on the day. Runner up, to champion Return Flight, in the 2018 G1 Thekwini Stakes, the Chesney Van Zyl trained filly showed her class with a facile win in an assessment plate, over 2000m, with Railtrip running out the easiest of winners.
Bred by the Summerhill Stud, Railtrip appeared to relish the 2000m trip she was trying for a first time on Saturday.
Trippi also enjoyed success at Greyville on Sunday when his daughter Flamenco Dancer scoring her third career win when victorious over 1200 metres. Trained by Dennis Bosch, the Riethuiskraal Stud bred filly is bred on the same Trippi/Complete Warrior cross as G1 winner Deo Juvente and short-lived sprint star Trip Tease.
The weekend could have been an even better one for the former champion sire, with Trippi sons Chimichuri Run (3rd G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes) and Twilight Trip (2nd Listed Ipi Tombe Stakes) both being placed in feature races.
Trippi, whose maternal grandson Signalman is a likely contender for Saturday’s G2 Fountain Of Youth Stakes, is the sire of nearly 150 black type performers, with his currently tally of stakes horses sitting at 147.
