Drakenstein Stud’s successful sire Philanthropist had a good spell over the weekend, with his two winners including a eye catching first-timer.
His three-year-old son Humanitarian was backed from 50-1 into16-1 in the first race at Fairview on Friday, and that Terry Andrews bred colt duly lived up to expectations.

Under jockey Donald Bogaleboile, Humanitarian powered home to score on debut by one and a quarter lengths over 1200 metres, leaving some well bred first-timers in his wake.

Trained by Jacques Strydom, Humanitarian was produced by the Qui Danzig mare Baltic Fury.

The colt was one of two South African winners over the weekend for Philanthropist –with the latter also having success at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday. The Philanthropist sired 3yo filly Lady Secret got off the mark on Sunday, when the Dennis Bosch trained filly scored by 1.1 lengths over 1600m.

Philanthropist is also from an inform female line –the strapping son of Kris S hails from the same family as talented US three-year-old Nolde.
The latter, a son of deceased sire Pioneerof The Nile, picked up his third win, from just eight starts, when he won the G2 Del Mar Derby at Del Mar on Sunday.

Nolde, who, like Philanthropist, traces back in female line to the great mare Grey Flight, also numbers the likes of graded/group stakes winners Cielo Gold,  Flitalong, Jump On In and multiple G1 winner Priolo,  as relatives.
