The Varsfontein Stud based Gimmethegreenlight, whose champion son Got The Greenlight ran third in Saturday’s G1 SA Derby, had an impressive debut winner at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday when his two-year-old son Kayson romped home, in open company, over 1200m.

An impressive winner of a barrier trial back in March, the gelded Kayson was all the rage for Sunday’s Bonamanzi Maiden Plate (1200m), and he lived up to expectations with a smooth first out win.
Always up with the pace, the blinkered Kayson quickened up smartly when jockey Anton Marcus asked the question, and he pulled clear in the closing stages to run out a 2.6 length winner on debut.
Bred by Team Valor International, the Brett Crawford trained Kayson was a R150 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Kayson is the seventh two-year-old winner for Gimmethegreenlight this season, with the sire’s other two-year-old winners in 2019-2020 including East Cape Fillies Nursery winner Favorita, G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery runner up Fiftyshadesdarker, and recent eight and a half length winner Ecstatic Green.
South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has 40 lots on offer at the 2020 National Sale.
