The Klipdrif Stud based G1 SA Derby winner Elusive Fort dominated proceedings in Saturday’s G1 SA Derby (2450m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

Himself a former Equus Champion, Elusive Fort is sire of both the winner, Out Of Your League, and fourth place finisher, Western Fort, of the 2020 SA Derby.

A first G1 winner for trainer Fabian Habib, the gelded Out Of Your League benefitted from a strong front running ride by Raymond Danielson, and clawed back to land the spoils by half a length, with Dingaans winner Shango back in second and champion Got The Greenlight a further neck away in third spot.

Bred by Wynand Nel, Out Of Your League has now won three of just nine starts, and Saturday’s win took his earnings to R421 175.

A R130 000 buy from the 2018 National 2YO Sale, Out Of Your League is out of the unraced Windrush mare Lil’ Bacio.

His triple G1 winning sire Elusive Fort has been in tremendous form of late, with the son of Fort Wood having been responsible for winners in all of the Vaal, Fairview, and Turffontein thus far this week.

A proven sire, whose other top horses include such G1 winners as Siren’s Call and Lauderdale, Elusive Fort has five lots on offer at the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
