The Drakenstein Stud based Futura has made a tremendously promising start to his stud career and the champion son of Dynasty supplied a fifth first crop winner when his son Calgary won at Fairview on Friday afternoon.

A close second on debut, his only previous start, the Maine Chance Farms bred Calgary went out to make all the running in Friday’s maiden juvenile plate over 1400m, and he never looked like being caught.
Under jockey Wayne Agrella, the Futura colt stayed on well to register a two and a quarter length win as the tote favourite for trainer Yvette Bremner.
Calgary, who is out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Cat’s Paw, was a R140 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
Friday’s winner holds an entry for the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup.
Futura, South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014-2015, has made a very pleasing start to his stud career and currently ranks as the coutry’s second leading first season sire by both prize money and individual winners.
His first crop runners include not only G2 SA Nursery third Nourbese but impressive winners Jasmine and Vihaan’s Pie, while Futura filly Dindingwe won at Borrowdale Park on Wednesday.
Futura has nine lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale including a filly (Lot 150) bred on similar lines to champion Lady In Black, a colt (Lot 256) out of G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Little Miss Magic, and a half-sister (Lot 293) to this season’s high-class 3yo Youcanthurrylove.
