Hong Kong success for Var

Avontuur Thoroughbed’s inform sire Var enjoyed more success on Wednesday when his Maine Chance Farms bred son Bear Again won in Hong Kong.

The David Ferraris trained Bear Again made it Hong Kong win number three when he saluted in the Shing Ping Handicap (1650m) on Wednesday.
Under jockey Blake Shinn, Bear Again stayed on gamely to post a neck victory at the expense of Alpha Hedge.

The gelding raced under the name of Flying Free in South Africa where he scored over 1200m and ran fourth in both the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe and G2 Investec Dingaans.

Bear Again is out of the top-class Silvano mare Frequent Flyer -winner of both the Stormsvlei Mile and Jamaica Handicap and twice runner up in the G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in both 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, Var has had another fine season in 2019-2020 thus far with his flagbearers including such G1 winners as Vardy (L’Orrmarins Queen’s Plate) and Rivarine (Computaform Sprint).

Var, whose son Talk Of The Town stands his first season at stud this year, has eight lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

His draft includes a colt (Lot 19) out of a half-sister to G1 J&B Met winner Martial Eagle, a filly (Lot 41) whose dam is a three-parts sister to Horse Of The Year Yard-Arm, and a colt (Lot 269) out of a Sadler’s Wells own sister to Oaks winner Front House-herself dam of this season’s smart 2YO Concessions.
