Thursday double for Var

11th September 2020

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s perennially successful sire Var has had an outstanding 12 months, and the good form of the G1 winning son of Forest Wildcat continued at the Vaal on Thursday, where Var supplied two smart looking winners.

Var’s three-year-old daughter Anna Capri stamped herself a filly to follow, when she romped home to a three and a half length win in a graduation plate over 1000m on Thursday.
Trained by David Nieuwenhuizen, Anna Capri made it two wins from just three starts in the process, with the Riethuiskraal Stud bred sophomore having run out a brilliant six and a half length maiden winner at her previous start.

The speedily bred Anna Capri joins the likes of unbeaten G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Anything Goes, G3 Capetown Noir Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Delta Queen, G2 Pospack SA Fillies Nursery second Miracle Flight and the promising Vars Vicky as high-class three-year-olds representing Var this season.

Var’s second winner on Thursday came when his Paul Peter trained daughter Way Of The World stayed on strongly to win a classified stakes over 1450m by a head.
The Ditro Bloodstock bred filly has now won three times, with Way Of The World having a further three placings to her name.

Way Of The World is out of the Street Cry mare Crimson Lane, and is thus bred on the same Var/Street Cry cross as Winterbach Stud’s new stallion Talk Of The Town.
