Turffontein double for Gimmethegreenlight

12th September 2020

Varsfontein Stud’s inform stallion Gimmethegreenlight, whose G1 winning son Yulong Prince ran a great second in the recent G2 Heineken Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick, enjoyed more success at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner supplied a pair of winners at Turffontein, with Gimmethegreenlight runners landing Saturday’s first and third races respectively.

His Alec Laird trained daughter Emerald Crest got off the mark, when she won the first race on Saturday. Under a fine ride from inform jockey S’Manga Khumalo, the Millstream Farm bred filly pulled clear to break her maiden by a length over 1200m.

Breaking her maiden at the fifth attempt, Emerald Crest is out of the National Emblem mare Ocean Ridge.

Gimmethegreenlight’s second success on Saturday came when his Ashley Fortune trained daughter Tahitian Orana landed a pinnacle stakes over 1600m.
Sent off a 2-1 shot, the four-year-old, also ridden by S’Manga Khumalo, stormed clear to score by two lengths, with Tahitian Orana taking her tally of wins to five with a convincing score on Saturday.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight ended the 2019-2020 season third on the general sires list, with his eight black type winners headed by G1 Daily News 2000/G1 SA Classic winner Got The Greenlight. The latter garnered more glory for Gimmethegreenlight, when Got The Greenlight was named both Equus Champion Three-Year-Old Colt and Champion Middle Distance Horse for 2019-2020 at Sunday’s virtual Equus Awards ceremony.

Gimmethegreenlight is a son of More Than Ready-whose son Daredevil sired the first two home in the 2020 G1 Kentucky Oaks.
