Drakenstein Stud’s multiple G1 winning sire What A Winter made the perfect start to the New Year when the former Equus Champion supplied a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

What A Winter’s first success on Sunday came when his 3yo son Origami stormed home to shed his maiden over 1800m.
The Lezeanne Forbes trained gelding, who was ridden by Serino Moodley, came with a strong late to run to prevail by just over a length while winning over 1800m.

Bred by Mr Kvalsvig, Origami had been third on his previous start.

What A Winter’s second success on Sunday came when his son Winter Chill defeated the promising What A Winter gelding Spydas Corner to win the fifth race on Greyville’s card. Trained by Garth Puller, the four-year-old Winter Chill has now won five times, with the gelding having captured the KZN Summer Challenge 1200 Final on his previous start.

Sire of three individual G1 winners in 2019-2020, What A Winter has 15 lots on offer at the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale including a three-parts sister (Lot 60) to G1 Sun Met runner up and sire Last Winter, and a colt (Lot 171) out of a G1 winning daughter of Jet Master.
