Vogel Vlei Stud’s G1 winning sire Red Ray has made a promising start with his first 2yos this season, and Red Ray came up with his first winner when his two-year-old son Global Glory scored at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

Third on debut, the Michael Miller trained Global Glory got off at just the second time of asking when he won over 1000m on Sunday.

The Waterford Stud bred colt defied greenness on the turn when staying on strongly, under Stuart Randolph, to score by just over a length and a quarter.

Out of the National Emblem mare Friday’s Child, Global Glory provided his sire with the perfect start to his stud career.

He is the only runner for Red Ray thus far, with the latter having stood the 2020 breeding season for a fee of  R7 000.

A son of multiple champion South African sire Western Winter (whose progeny also include Drakenstein’s very successful stallion What A Winter), Red Ray won or placed in 11 of his 16 starts, while establishing himself as one of the best horses of his generation.

Red Ray won stakes races at two, three and five, and won his biggest race when victorious in the G1 Mercury Sprint of 2016.

A full-brother to the graded stakes winners Nania, Bishop’s Bounty and Brutal Force, Red Ray also won the Listed Somerset 1200 at two and G3 Cape Classic at three.
