Maine Chance Farms ‘top-class sire, and former Equus Champion Vercingetorix, enjoyed another big day out at Hollywoodbets Greyville when his son Nebraas captured the G3 Marshalls World Of Sport Gold Cup (3200m), over a top-class field.

Trained by Sean Tarry, the four-year-old Nebraas came into Saturday’s Gold Cup having won his two previous starts including the G3 DSTV Gold Vase on Vodacom Durban July day.
Under Lyle Hewitson, the Al Adiyaat bred and owned gelding hit the front 200m from home and kept going away to win by a neck over Silver Host, with SA Derby winner Out Of Your League another length away in third spot.

Nebraas, who is out of the Archipenko mare Noor Dubai, has now won four of his 14 starts for earnings of R654 125.

The gelding now ranks as the leading contender for the Equus Award of Champion Stayer for 2020-2021.

His G1 Jebel Hatta winning sire Vercingetorix went close to enjoying further graded success on Saturday, with Vercingetorix gelding Honokalani flashing up late to finish second in Saturday’s G1 Premiers Champion Stakes.
