The 2020-2021 South African racing season proved a wonderful one for Cape bred thoroughbreds. Not only did horses bred in the Cape capture 27 G1 races during the past season, the Varsfontein Stud bred Yulong Prince won Australia’s G1 Kennedy Cantala.
Other notable races won by Cape bred horses in the past season included the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 Cape Town Met, G1 Cape Racing Presents The Cape Guineas, and the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas -while the Cape bred Malmoos landed the South African Triple Crown in facile fashion last season.

This year’s Cape Breeders Award winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony, early in September, with a set date yet to be finalized.
