Saturday treble for Vercingetorix

12th September 2021

Maine Chance Farms’ multiple G1 winning stallion Vercingetorix continues to impress as a sire of high-class winners, and the champion son overcingetorixf Silvano came up with three more smart winners on Saturday.

His three-year-old daughter Mike’s Chick made a big impression when she romped home to claim the fourth race at Turffontein, the Champion Middle Summer Pudding/Stayer African Adventure Maiden Plate (F&M) (1600m) by seven and three-quarter lengths.
Trained, like her sire, by Mike de Kock, Mike’s Chick, under Warren Kennedy, made all to break her maiden at just the third time of asking in emphatic fashion.

Bred by the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, three-year-old Mike’s Chick had finished third on debut before finishing fifth on her only previous subsequent appearance.

Vercingetorix had an immediate double when his Paul Peter trained son Cleveland caused a 25-1 upset to win Saturday’s fifth race, the Champion Horse War Of Athena/Champion Breeder Summerhill Stud MR 87 Handicap (1450m).
Under Muzi Yeni, the four-year-old gelding flew up late to score a near half length win, and take his tally of wins to three.

Bred by The Alchemy, Cleveland is out of the Western Winter mare Te Gusta.

Vercingetorix also enjoyed success at Durbanville on Saturday where his Brett Crawford trained son Irish Tractor won the seventh race, the Goals And Gallops Mr 95 Handicap (1400m). Under Louis Mxothwa, the talented four-year-old came with a sustained late run which saw Irish Tractor go on to beat runner up Fast Love by a long neck. Bred by the Klawervlei Stud, Irish Tractor has now won three of his last four starts and four times overall.

Already the sire of G1 winners Ambiorix and Vernichey, as well as Equus Champion Nebraas, Vercingetorix has three lots on offer at the 2021 CTS Ready To Run Sale.
