Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight has had a fine year in 2021, and the son of More Than Ready ended the year on a high note when supplying two winners at the final Kenilworth racemeeting of 2021.

Gimmethegreenlight’s first success at Kenilworth on Wednesday came when his son Gainsford ran out a last gasp winner of the fourth race, the Computaform Online MR 101 Handicap over1600 metres.
Under Richard Fourie, the Vaughan Marshall stormed home late to win by a neck at the expense of the game Red Lark.
Third on his previous outing, Gainsford has now won three times, with the Ken Truter bred (and part-owned) gelding having contested last season’s G2 Post Merchants, where he finished less than a length and a half off the winner.

Gimmethegreenlight’s second success on Wednesday came when his daughter Green Light Gal captured the penultimate race on the card -the www.caperacing.co.za FM 94 Divided Handicap over 1200 metres.

Trained, like her sire, by Justin Snaith, four-year-old Green Light Gal prevailed in a tight finish to Wednesday’s sprint when running out a neck winner.

Ridden to victory by S’Manga Khumalo, the Anthony Peter bred filly has now won four of her 12 starts.
Out of the Jet Master mare Heart’s Content, Green Light Gal is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Jet Master cross as graded stakes winners Green Plains, La Bella Mia, and One Night In Paris.

South Africa’s reigning Champion Sire, Gimmethegreenlight is enjoying another tremendous season in 2021-2022, with his flagbearers including such graded stakes winners as Follow Me, One Night In Paris and Vikram.
The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner has 15 lots on the upcoming Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
