Varsfontein Stud’s resident stallion Master Of My Fate has had an excellent few weeks, with his progeny impressing all over South Africa, and the strapping son of Jet Master had another memorable day at Kenilworth on Saturday when supplying the winners of three of the nine races run on the card.

The regally bred Master Of My Fate, whose Triple Crown winning close relative Malmoos stands his first season at stud this year, also went close to having a feature race double on Saturday with his daughter Peut Etre Moi running a very close third in Saturday’s Listed WSB Stormsvlei Stakes.
Master Of My Fate’s classy three-year-old son Gem King made it back to back graded stakes wins when he captured Saturday’s G3 World Sports Betting Legal Eagle Stakes (1800m) for trainer Piet Steyn and jockey Richard Fourie. A convincing winner of the G3 WSB Variety Club Mile last time out, the Varsfontein bred Gem King was given a patient ride by Fourie, who kept his mount at the back of the field for much of Saturday’s race, before unleashing Gem King close home.
The pair stormed home to score by three-parts of a length, and Gem King looks set to go on from here.
The progressive Gem King, now a winner of the first two legs of the famed Winter Series, has now won five of 12 starts.
Gem King, a R250 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale, is one of several talented three-year-olds representing Master Of My Fate this season with others including recent G2 World Sports Betting Guineas winner Zapatillas.
The gelded Gem King was one of three winners on the Kenilworth card for Master Of My Fate, whose Varsfontein Stud bred son Tout A Fait won the fifth race, and whose daughter Golden Dah captured the ninth and final race on the card.
Currently fourth on the General Sires List (he was second last season), Master Of My Fate has three lots on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and a further three on the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
