Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Querari enjoyed yet more feature race success when his talented three-year-old daughter Maria Querol won the Listed World Sports Betting Stormsvlei Stakes (1800m) at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The 2022 Stormsvlei Stakes proved a total triumph for Querari, with the sire’s daughters Maria Querol and Fleeting finishing first and second respectively.
Trained by Justin Snaith, the Maine Chance & Coolmore Partnership bred Maria Querol was given a superbly timed ride by Craig Zackey.
Zackey kept Maria Querol (fourth in the Listed WSB Sweet Chestnut Stakes last time out) off the pace but managed to get his filly’s head down where it mattered most and score by a head.
Out of the Dynasty mare Maria Theresa, Maria Querol has now won four of 11 starts, with the classy filly also victorious in last season’s Listed Tabonline.co.za Irridescence Stakes.
Maria Querol was a R225 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
She is one of 30 stakes winners for Querari -who currently heads South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2YOs List, by stakes, for 2021-2022.
Querari also shares his top-class sire Oasis Dream with brilliant three-year-old Native Trail, an emphatic winner of Saturday’s G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas.
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019, Querari has two lots on the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale and a further four yearlings on sale at the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
