Vercingetorix colt lands Gatecrasher Stakes

11th June 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ champion sire elect Vercingetorix came up with his 20th stakes winner when his progressive son Cousin Casey won Saturday’s Listed Cell C Sharks Gatecrasher Stakes (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

Bred by Riyo Stud, two-year-old Cousin Casey made it back to back wins when he powered home, under Grant Van Niekerk, to claim the 2022 Gatecrasher Stakes by nearly two lengths.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, Cousin Casey had broke his maiden last time out when scoring over 1400m at Scottsville, and the Vercingetorix colt has now won twice from just four starts.

Cousin Casey could now be aimed at the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe on July day.
Out of the Casey Tibbs mare Bretton Woods, Cousin Casey was a R375 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Cousin Casey, bred on the same Vercingetorix/Casey Tibbs cross as the useful Masked Vigilante, is one of six two-year-old winners for Vercingetorix this season, with this tally also including G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes runner up Gladiatorian and G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery third Pucallpa.
It was a second consecutive Saturday feature race win for the progeny of Vercingetorix, with Vercingetorix’s son Alesian Chief victorious in last Saturday’s G1 Golden Horse Sprint withVercingetorix going close to having a graded race double on Saturday when his son Mount Anderson was just touched off when a close up second in the G3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial on the same card.
Currently well clear on the South African General Sires List, Vercingetorix has two fillies on the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and six yearlings on sale at the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
