Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed another big payday at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday afternoon, when his daughter She’s A Keeper won the G1 Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes (1600m) over an outstanding field.
In the process, She’s A Keeper became the fourth G1 winner for her champion sire, with Gimmethegreenlight also responsible for fellow G1 winners Got The Greenlight, Gunner and Yulong Prince. The latter pair are both now standing at stud.
Fourth in the G2 Track And Ball Oaks last time out, She’s A Keeper made amends for that defeat with a superb perfomance in Saturday’s R1 000 000 feature.
Under Warren Kennedy, the five-year-old hit the front 400m from home, and She’s A Keeper powered away to land the 2022 Garden Province Stakes by two lengths. Her beaten rivals included such G1 winners as Silver Darling, Captain’s Ransom, Zarina and Under Your Spell.
She’s A Keeper, who is out of the Trippi mare Gold Trip, has now won eight of just 16 starts, with the Gimmethegreenlight mare’s total of five black type wins including both the G2 World Sports Betting1900 and G2 Kuda Gold Bracelet of 2021.
Trained by Gareth Van Zyl, She’s A Keeper, bred on the reverse Gimmethegreenlight/Trippi cross as this season’s G1 winning filly Sweet Pepper, was bred and owned by the Missing U Syndicate.
Saturday’s winner is one of 43 stakes winners for Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021 and currently third on the General Sires List.
