Drakenstein Stud’s four time G1 winning sire Futura had an excellent few days over the past weekend.

Not only did Futura’s son Xavion capture the Listed Compendium Insurance Brokers Handicap at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, the former Horse Of The Year was also responsible for two more winners at Fairview one day earlier.
Progressive three-year-old Xavion became Futura’s tenth stakes winner when he captured Saturday’s Compendium Insurance Brokers Handicap over 1600m on Saturday.
Trained, like Futura, by Brett Crawford, Xavion raced wide for much of Saturday’s race, before powering home down the outside of the Greyville track to win by just over three-parts of a length.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Xavion (one of three runners in the Compendium Insurance Brokers Handicap sired by Futura) was ridden to victory by Louis Mxothwa.
Out of the Tamburlaine mare Sharp Mistress, Xavion has now won twice from just nine starts and he also accounted for subsequent G1 winners Double Superlative and Pomp And Power when third in the G3 Cape Classic earlier in the season.
Futura is also the sire of hugely promising two-year-old filly Ekoria, who caught the eye with an impressive win at Fairview on Friday. Fourth in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship last time out (beating subsequent G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper winner Ameena), Ekoria made it three wins from just five starts when powering away to land Racing240 For Racing. For You Juvenile Plate (FIllies) (1200m) by nearly three-parts of a length.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Ekoria had caught the eye earlier this season when she won the Listed WSB Dahlia Plate by three and a quarter lengths.
Ekoria was one of two winners for Futura at Fairview on Friday, with the champion’s Drakenstein Stud bred and owned daughter Dame Of Flames defeating G3 Goals And Gallops Final Fling Stakes queen Pretty Betty to win the fifth race on the card.
Also sire of recent G2 Track And Ball Oaks 1-2 finishers in the form of Pink Tourmaline and Light Of The Moon respectively, Futura ranks higher than the likes of Trippi, Var, and his own outstanding sire Dynasty on the Leading Sires of 3YOs List in South Africa this season.
