Guineas success for Erupt

26th February 2024

Maine Chance Farms’ well-performed stallion Erupt had a good weekend, with his three-year-old son Buster Barnes winning the Zimbabwe Guineas on Saturday, and Erupt’s two-year-old son Mount Pinatubo making a winning debut at Turffontein on Sunday.
Smart three-year-old Buster Barnes made it four wins from just six starts when he won the Zimbabwe Guineas (1600m) at Borrowdale Park on Saturday.
Under Deryl Daniels, the Debra Swanson trained Buster Barnes powered away to land the Guineas as he liked by five lengths.
Bred by Millstream Farm, Buster Barnes came into Saturday’s race off a six-length romp in a pinnacle stakes over 1600 metres.
Buster Barnes, who is out of the Caesour mare Servilia, was a R200 000 buy from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
Erupt also looks to have a classy two-year-old to his name in the form of Mount Pinatubo. The latter stormed home to get up and win Sunday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) in thrilling fashion.
Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, Mount Pinatubo was ridden by Hennie Greyling. The colt is the second two-year-old winner this season thus far for his sire, with Erupt’s smart daughter You Bring Me Joy entered for next Saturday’s Listed Ruffian Stakes.
Bred by his part-owner Laurence Wernars, Mount Pinatubo is out of the Philanthropist mare She’s A Giver.
