Maine Chance Farms’ top-class stallion Querari came up with his 44th stakes winner when his son Choisaanada won the Listed Betway Secretariat Stakes (1400m) at Turffontein on Sunday.
The Erico Verdonese trained three-year-old, who had recently been gelded, claimed his biggest win to date when skating home to land the 2025 Secretariat Stakes.
Under Gavin Lerena, Choisaanada hit the front full of running and stayed on well to hold off the fast finishing top weight Immediate Edge and score by a length.
Bred by Shadwell Stud, the Querari gelding has won three of eight starts.
Choisaanada is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Musaanada, and is thus bred on the same Querari/Redoute’s Choice cross as 2024 G3 World Pool Gold Cup winner Master Redoute.
His sire Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019 , has had another good season in 2024-2025 with his stars including G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Cosmic Speed and dual G3 winner Rainbow Lorikeet.
