Varsfontein Stud’s promising homebred sire Erik The Red is having a fine season with his two-year-olds.
The son of Captain Al came up with another impressive two-year-old winner when his son Into Red Space made a winning debut at Fairview on Friday.

Trained by Kelly Mitchley, Into Red Space proved far too strong for his rivals in Friday’s World Sports Betting Maiden Juvenile Plate (1100m).
Under Muzi Yeni, the Erik The Red colt was always up with the pace and he pulled clear in the closing stages to win, going away, by two and a quarter lengths.

It was a 1-2 for Erik The Red, with Into Red Space vanquishing his paternal half-brother Olaf The Stout into second spot.

Bred by Oldlands Stud, Into Red Space races for Mr Holmes.

Into Red Space, who is out of the Alado mare Space Girl, was a R120 000 buy from the 2025 Cape Yearling Sale.

Closely related to prominent sire Master Of My Fate as well as the promising Malmoos, Erik The Red is South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2025-2026 thus far. His notable two-year-olds include Red Spice and Roskilde, the first two home in the G3 Ridgemont Cape Of Good Hope Nursery, as well as Griselda, runner up in the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes.
