Varsfontein Stud’s exciting homebred stallion Erik The Red came up with another good prospect when his son Erikson made a winning debut at Turffontein on Saturday.
Gelded three-year-old Erikson was sent off a 4-1 shot for Saturday’s Logwood Residents Maiden Plate (3-year-olds) (1200m) and duly justified this support.

Under Muzi Yeni, the Weichong Marwing trained sophomore stayed on strongly in the closing stages of the Turffontein contest to win convincingly by a long neck.

Bred by Clifton Stud, Erikson is owned by Mr Havenga.

Erikson, who is out of the Var mare Verinova, was a R700 000 purchase from the 2025 August Two Year Old Sale.

He hails from the stellar second crop of multiple graded stakes winner Erik The Red, with this crop headed by G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes winner Erik Dubois. The latter recently made a pleasing return to the track when he ran second over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
