South Africa’s Champion Sire elect for 2024-2025, Vercingetorix, came up with his 12th G1 winner when his daughter Mia Moo won the G1 South African Fillies Sprint brought to you by The Witness.
Trained by Sean Tarry, four-year-old Mia Moo made it three graded wins in a row with her South African Fillies Sprint.
Given a fine ride by Callan Murray, the chestnut stuck her head down where it mattered most to score the narrowest of victories.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Mia Moo has won six of 16 outings, with the filly having captured the G3 4Racing Sycamore Sprint and G2 TAB Camellia Stakes in her two outings prior to Saturday.
Mia Moo is out of the Captain Al mare Leeward and she is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as fellow G1 winners Double Grand Slam and Vernichey.
Saturday’s winner was a R300 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Mia Moo’s outstanding sire Vercingetorix had another excellent day at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday.
The champion son of Silvano is also the sire of Saturday’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship runner up Elegantrix, while Vercingetorix sons O’Tenikwa and King Of Gauls ran second and third respectively in Saturday’s G2 Golden Horse Sprint. Yet another son of the star stallion in the form of Vihaan’s Web made it three wins from his last four starts when he won Saturday’s ninth race.
