Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young stallion Erik The Red came up with a very impressive debut winner at Fairview on Friday.
His two-year-old daughter North Star turned Friday’s Racing Today Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m) into a one horse-race.
Under Richard Fourie, North Star pulled well clear in the closing stages of the contest to go away and win by four and three quarter lengths.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, North Star races for Mr P J Moor.
The filly, who is out of the Master Of My Fate mare In My Stars, is the 13th winner to have emerged from Erik The Red’s first crop.
Closely inbred to Erik The Red’s granddam Secret Pact , North Star was a R275 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale.
By the same sire as current boom sire One World, Erik The Red has four lots on offer at the 2025 KZN Yearling Sale.
