Six in a row for Fire Away son

7th Jun 2025

Wilgerbosdrift’s inform stallion Fire Away has a cracking crop of three-year-olds this season.
This crop includes the classy gelding  My Best Shot, who made it six wins in a row when winning at Fairview on Friday.
Trained by Alan Greeff, the three-year-old came into Friday’s race off a clean sweep in the EC sophomore challenge.

Under Richard Fourie, My Best Shot was sent off a hot favourite for the TAB 4Racing App Pinnacle Stakes (2000m) and he duly obliged.

Hitting the front 200m from home, the gelding kept going strongly to score by a length and three quarters.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, My Best Shot races for Nick & Val McFall, Messrs G L Blank, G Piha, H N Yutar, D Yutar, Mr & Mrs A C Greeff.

The gelding, who holds an entry for the 2025 G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July, has won ten of 16 starts and eight of his last nine starts.

My Best Shot, who is out of the Fort Wood mare Gypsy Madonna, was a R120 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.

His sire Fire Away, also responsible for this season’s G1 winning three-year-olds Confederate and Fire Attack, went close to having a double on Friday with his daughter Luna Halo running second in the ninth race.
