16 wins and counting for remarkable Captain Lars

12th Mar 2018

Cape bred gelding Captain Lars, who was bred by Klawervlei Stud, further enhanced his remarkable record when he captured his 16thvictory at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
The durable eight-year-old, who had scored earlier in week when victorious on Wednesday, justified 11/8 favouritism with a convincing ¾ of a length win over Newstead Abbey.

The latter was receiving a remarkable 12lbs from Captain Lars!

A full-brother to G1 Gold Medallion winner and Equus Champion Always In Charge, the Archie Watson trained Captain Lars was steered to victory by Luke Morris.

Captain Lars, whose dam is a three-parts sister to Pivotal, has now won 11 races in Britain –and he looks unlikely to stop here.

A R1.4 million buy from the inaugural Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Captain Lars is a son of Klawervlei’s deceased champion sire Captain Al.

One of the most durable gallopers currently campaigned in Britain, Captain Lars has now won or placed in 31 races.

His outstanding sire Captain Al  has enjoyed another fine season, with his runners including the G1 winners Snowdance, Tap O’ Noth, and Sergeant Hardy. Captain Al has also, once again, found favour with buyers at various sales, with his yearlings in 2018 making up to R3 000 000.

The former champion sire, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, has two G1 winning sire sons now standing at Klawervlei in the form of Equus Champion Sprinter Captain Of All and G1 Cape Guineas winner William Longsword.
