Ridgemont’s five time G1 winning sire Canford Cliffs came up with his 24th individual stakes winner when his son Meridius captured the Listed @WorldPool Twitter Handicap (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Making his first start for Tony Peter, the classy three-year-old was given a finely timed ride by Craig Zackey.
Despite racing wide in the running, Meridius produced a smart turn of foot which saw the Canford Cliffs gelding get up in the shadow of the post and nab the front running Battle Force to score by a neck going away.
Bred by Winterbach Stud, Meridius made it back to back wins with his Sunday score, with the three-year-old having won impressively at Turffontein back in June.
Out of the Parade Leader mare Zili, Meridius has now won five of 16 starts for earnings of R450 625.
He hails from the first South African crop of Canford Cliffs, with this crop having also produced dual stakes winner Cliff Top, Thekwini Stakes runner up Rock The Fox, recent Olympic Duel Stakes runner up Body Electric and the stakes placed Heathcliff.
Canford Cliffs, whose second South African crop includes G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Cliff Hanger and Listed Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes heroine Secret Identity, has four lots on offer at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale.
