Drakenstein Stud’s resident champion sire Trippi has enjoyed an outstanding season in 2021-2022 thus far, and the evergreen son of End Sweep came up with yet another stakes winner when his progressive son Winchester Mansion won Saturday’s G3 World Sports Betting Pocket Power Stakes (2400m) at Kenilworth.
Trained by Brett Crawford, the Drakenstein Stud bred and owned Winchester Mansion had looked unlucky when a close second in the G3 WSB Legal Eagle Stakes last time out but made no mistakes when running out a convincing winner of Saturday’s Pocket Power Stakes.
Under Louis Mxothwa, Winchester Mansion came from the back of the field to win going away by half a length.
Out of the Spectrum mare Sea Point, Winchester Mansion has now won twice from eight starts with the promise of plenty more to come.
Winchester Mansion became his sire’s 88th stakes winner when he captured the final leg of the Winter Series on Saturday. The progressive colt is bred on very similar lines to another graded stakes winning three-year-old son of Trippi, with Winchester Mansion hailing from the immediate family of the Trippi sired 2021 G3 Cape Classic winner Trip Of Fortune.
Trippi has a fine crop of three-year-olds this season, even by his high standards. While his sophomores in 2021-2022 are yet to include a G1 winner, Trippi’s current three-year-old crop includes six black type horses notably the aforementioned pair of Winchester Mansion and Trip Of Fortune, G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship heroine Amanzimtoti, and G3 Strelitzia Stakes/G3 WSB Magnolia Handicap winner Sound Of Warning.
However, Trippi’s success this season has not been limited to his three-year-olds with his champion son Jet Dark capturing the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate for a second time, and his two-year-old daughter Sweet Pepper victorious in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship (a race which Sound Of Warning finished second in last year).
Trippi also looks poised to make his presence felt at Hollywoodbets Greyville this Saturday. He is broodmare sire of two runners in Saturday’s Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (C &G) in the form of Raffles and USA’s Hope respectively, Sweet Pepper runs in the G2 Zulu Kingdom Golden Slipper, and Sound Of Warning lines up in the G2 Post Merchants.Trippi is also broodmare sire of G1 Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes contender She’s A Keeper and Merchants hopefuls Sheela and William Robertson.
Trippi has also made his presence felt in the final field for this year’s G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July -his son Jet Dark lines up in the 2022 July, while Trippi is also broodmare sire of fellow July contender Hoedspruit.
