Set to be crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire for 2024-2025, Vercingetorix came up with his 59th stakes winner on Saturday.
His unbeaten daughter Ukuduma made it two wins from two starts when she won the Listed Irridescence Stakes (1500m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Trained by Vaughan Marshall, Ukuduma benefitted from a superb ride by Gavin Lerena in Saturday’s R250 000 contest.
Always up with the pace, Lerena kept his mount going strongly in the closing stages, with Ukuduma keep going gamely to win by a short-head.
Bred, like Vercingetorix, by Klawervlei Stud, Ukuduma was a R2 600 000 purchase from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
Out of the dual G1 winning Jet Master mare Thunder Dance, Ukuduma was bred on the same Vercingetorix/Jet Master cross as graded stakes winners African Warrior, Greaterix, Quickstepgal and Rascallion.
She is one of four black type horses to have emerged from Vercingetorix’s current crop of two-year-olds this season thus far.
Ukuduma was one of three winners at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday for Vercingetorix.
The latter’s blue blooded son October Storm made a winning debut when scoring over 1000m, while Vercingetorix gelding Ariovistus made it back to back wins when he won the fifth race on Saturday.
