Talented 3yo Shine So Bright, whose stakes winning granddam Alvarita is a half-sister to Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud’s resident sire Alado, picked up the first black type win of his career when victorious in Tuesday’s Listed European Free Handicap at Newmarket.

A colt by Oasis Dream, Shine So Bright, whose dam is G3 winner Alla Speranza, had been third in the G2 Richmond S. at Goodwood, G2 Gimcrack S. At York and G2 Mill Reef S. at Newbury last season and he picked up a well deserved stakes success when landing the Free Handicap by 1.75 lengths under champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa.
Shine So Bright (considered a potential 2000 Guineas contender) is trained by Andrew Balding, who said after Tuesday’s win, “He’s a really uncomplicated horse and the ride suited him well. He is a mixture on pedigree, with plenty of stamina on the dams’side and so the likelihood is we’ll have to try a mile. He deserves consideration for the Guineas. He’s a smart horse whatever his distance turns out to be.”
The 2019 European Free Handicap winner’s third dam is dual G1 Champion Stakes winner Alborada –whose other notable descendants include not only the aforementioned Alla Speranza but also fellow group winners Alyssa (G2 Park Hill Stakes) and Alea Iacta (G3 Prix Thomas Bryon).
Alborada’s son Alado enjoyed success in South Africa on Saturday when his Harold Crawford trained son Aldato picked up his third career victory at Durbanville last weekend.
