A half-brother to Maine Chance Farms’ dual G1 winning sire Erupt proved the star turn on the second day of trading at the 2019 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.
The Invincible Spirit colt (Lot 122) was knocked down to Godolphin for 575 000 after being knocked down to Anthony Stroud-despite suffering a tack malfunction during the gallops.

This made the half-brother to Erupt the top lot sold on Wedneday’s session of the Breeze Up Sale.
Norman Williamson, who consigned the well bred colt, said after his sale, “He proved he’s a good, solid colt. He’s a lovely horse with a great pedigree, so let’s hope he’s lucky.”
“He’s a very nice horse and did a very good breeze,” said Stroud. “He showed a remarkable temperament having had to do it twice and he comes from a very good Niarchos family. Norman Williamson does a great job of preparing these horses.”
Bred on similar lines to Australian G1 winner I Am A Star (who was sired by a son of Invincible Spirit) and a ¾ brother to G3 winner Local Time, the pricey colt was produced by the Caerleon mare Mare Nostrum, winner of the G3 Prix Vanteaux and runner up in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary.
The latter has been a highly successful producer, with her five winners including not only dual G1 winner Erupt but also Pretty Polly Stakes winner Marie De Medici –the dam of G3 Oh Sharp Stakes winner Local Time.
Further back this is the family of such high class sires as Encosta De Lago, Holy Roman Emperor, Flying Spur and Night Shift.
One of nearly 40 G1 winners sired by the outstanding stallion Dubawi, Erupt was a superb athlete, whose wins included the 2015 G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris and 2016 G1 Pattison Canadian International.
