Multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have yet another star to his name in the form of Green Diamond.
The latter made it back to back graded stakes wins when she romped home to a visually impressive victory in Saturday’s G3 TAB Protea Stakes (1100m) at Turffontein.
A convincing winner of the G2 TAB SA Nursery last time out, the Sean Tarry trained Green Diamond was all the rage for Saturday’s R300 000 contest, and she duly obliged.
Under Craig Zackey, the two-year-old was always travelling smoothly in Saturday’s race, and when asked the question, Green Diamond quickened up smartly to put the race to bed.
She drew off to trounce male rivals by an emphatic six and a half lengths, while confirming herself as one of the most exciting fillies currently in South Africa.
A second graded winner on the day for trainer and owner-breeder, Drakenstein Stud, Green Diamond has won two of just three starts.
Bred by on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Trippi cross as such G1 winners as Gimme A Prince and She’s A Keeper, Green Diamond is out of the Trippi sired stakes winner Lesedi La Rona.
Green Diamond is one of 76 stakes winners for Gimmethegreenlight, whose tally of black type winners include 12 G1 winners.
