Back to back Lakeside Handicap wins for Canford Cliffs gelding

1st Feb 2025

Ridgemont’s inform sire Canford Cliffs had a good day on Friday when his son Bournemouth won the Lakeside Handicap (Open -Non-Black Type) at Fairview.
Bournemouth made it back-to-back wins, with the son of Canford Cliffs having landed the 2024 Lakeside Handicap by two and three-quarter lengths.
Under Richard Fourie, the Alan Greeff trained five-year-old powered home to win as he liked by two and a quarter lengths.
In landing Friday’s 2400m contest, Bournemouth accounted for some smart sorts headed by a pair of Algoa Cup winners in the form of Firealley and Han Solo respectively.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Bournemouth has won seven of 23 starts.
The gelding is out of the Galileo mare Serruria, making Bournemouth a half-brother to G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner Seville Orange.
Bournemouth is bred on the same Canford Cliffs/Galileo cross as G1 Investec Coronation Cup runner-up Salouen.
Five time G1 winner Canford Cliffs has also enjoyed run of success of late, with his latest winners including Listed Betway Swallow Stakes winner Almond Sea and impressive debut winner Direct Hit.
Canford Cliffs, also responsible for recent Listed Heineken Summer Juvenile Stakes third Instaworthy, has two lots on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale.
