Varsfontein Stud’s increasingly successful sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have a smart sort on his hands in the form of In The Dance.
The latter, bred and owned by Lammerskraal Stud, impressed when making it two wins from as many outings at the Vaal racecourse on Thursday when dispatched the 2-1 tote favourite.
In The Dance, well ridden by S’Manga Khumalo, powered home from off the pace to get up in the shadow of the post and land the assessment plate over 1100m by a head –going away.
Trained by Sean Tarry, the 3yo filly had previously impressed on debut when winning, as she liked, by three and a half lengths over 1160m.
In The Dance, bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as the graded stakes winners Hack Green (G2 Umkhomazi Stakes) and Green Pepper (G3 Magnolia Handicap), is out of former Broodmare Of The Year Akinfeet, and she looks an exciting prospect –both for the track and for the paddocks when she retires.
Her G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire, whose G1 Daily News 2000 winner Surcharge is now in Dubai, is doubly represented in Saturday’s G3 Graham Beck Stakes, with sons National Park and Green Haze.
South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has a single lot on Sunday’s Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and three lots on this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
