Cape Merchants success for Gimmethegreenlight

12th Dec 2022

Varsfontein Stud’s inform champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with his 49th stakes winner this weekend when Gimmethegreenlight’s son Gimme A Prince ran out a convincing winner of the G2 Cape Merchants (1200m), run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday.
It was a second year in a row that the Cape Merchants was won by a son of Gimmethegreenlight, with Vikram victorious in the 2021 Cape Merchants.
The lightly raced Gimme A Prince made it four wins from just six starts with a clear-cut win in Sunday’s sprint.
Under a well timed ride from Keagan De Melo, the Dean Kannemeyer trained gelding hit the front 150m from home and kept going strongly in the closing stages to land the 2022 Cape Merchants by two lengths.
Bred and owned by Khaya Stables, four-year-old Gimme A Prince had finished second in the Listed Southeaster Sprint at his previous start.
Out of the Trippi mare Real Princess, Gimme A Prince is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Trippi cross as G1 winner She’s A Keeper.
His champion sire has been in tremendous form this season thus far, with Gimmethegreenlight’s other luminaries this season including the graded stakes winning fillies Ciao Bella and Gimme A Shot, as well as the likes of Universal, Kwinta’s Light, and exciting three-year-old Shoemaker.
