Saturday evening’s RA Highveld Feature Seasons Awards ceremony was dominated by Cape bred thoroughbreds.
The Wilgerbosdrift/Mauritzfontein bred three-year-old Hawwaam cleaned up at Saturday’s ceremony, with the Silvano colt claiming the titles of Champion 3YO Colt, Champion Middle Distance Horse, Champion Horse.
Hawwaam, beaten just once in six outings, picked up four graded features during the season and ended his Highveld campaign with a facile four length romp in the G1 The Premier’s Champions Challenge.

In total, Cape bred thoroughbreds claimed no fewer than eight awards on the night-another great advertisement for the quality of horse produced in the province.

Hawwaam’s breeder, Wilgerbosdrift, was also acknowledged on Saturday with the farm given the award of Champion Breeder for the recent Highveld season.
