Drakenstein Stud’s highly successful sire, and former South African Horse Of The Year, Futura, made his presence felt at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday when his son Future Swing won the G3 Glorious Goodwood Chairman’s Cup (2500m) in fine fashion.
Trained by Justin Snaith, four-year-old Future Swing made it two wins from his last three starts when he won the Chairman’s Cup under Anthony Andrews. The gelded four-year-old raced midfield for much of Saturday’s R300 000, before weaving his way through runners close home and drawing off to win impressively by length and a half.
Winner of the 2023 Listed Jonsson Workwear Algoa Cup, Future Swing, who was taking a step up in trip on Saturday, has now won six of 16 starts.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Future Swing, runner-up in the G3 Ridgemont Peninsula Handicap on his penultimate start, is out of the Trippi mare Carousel Swing. The gelding is bred on the increasingly successful Futura/Trippi cross which is also responsible for the stakes winners Pink Tourmaline, Vihaan’s Pie, Sweet Future, Future Girl and Dawnofanewday.
Four-time G1 winner Futura had a wonderful season in 2022-2023, with his six black type winners for that season headed by Equus Champion and multiple graded stakes winner Future Pearl.
Futura, whose outstanding sire Dynasty is the broodmare sire of Saturday’s impressive G1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate winner Charles Dickens, has three lots on offer at this month’s Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls, including a filly (Lot 45) whose G3 winning granddam is a half-sister to outstanding racehorse and sire Candy Ride.
His draft at the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale includes a half-brother (Lot 1) to G3 Strelitzia Stakes runner-up Hot Pearl and a half-sister (Lot 138) to BSA Cape Yearling Sale Cup winner Certainly.
