Champion sprinter debuts at Premier Sale

10th Jan 2018

Klawervlei Stud based champion Captain Of All is set to make his sales debut as a stallion at the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale this month.

Captain Of All

The Riverton Stud bred bay was an exceptional racehorse and Equus Champion Sprinter of 2014-2015. Captain Of All, who also took high ranking on Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings of 2015, won or placed in 11 of his 12 outings and earned over R2.25 million in stakes.

The champion won or placed in six G1 races, with Captain Of All landing the G1 Gold Medallion at two, before collecting both the G1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint and G1 Mercury Sprint at four.
Captain Of All downed  nine graded stakes winners when lugging top weight of 60kgs to win the Golden Horse Casino Sprint, before thrashing champions Carry On Alice (also by Captain Al) and Legislate to win the Mercury Sprint impressively.

The bay also won the G2 Diadem Stakes and was just beaten in the G1 Cape Flying Championship.

He is one of more than 80 stakes winners for Klawervlei’s late champion sire Captain Al, who made waves this season as the sire of Cape classic winners Snowdance (G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas) and Tap O’ Noth (G1 Forus Cape Guineas).

Captain Al

Captain Of All, himself a past graduate of the Klawervlei Farm Sale, has let down into a very handsome stallion and his first crop has attracted plenty of positive attention.

John Koster says of his Captain Of All yearlings, “The panel were suitably impressed. Overall, they are high quality horses, leggy with good girth, they have great shape and move extremely well. Pleasing to the eye to say the least!.”

Klawervlei consign six Captain Of All yearlings to the Premier Sale and all scored highly with the panel.

Lot 7 –a filly out of an SA Oaks runner up by Jet Master got a 9.5 from the panel and is described as a “lovely, big filly, lots of presence, good top and a lovely mover.”

Lot 21 –is a filly, awarded a 9 by the selection panel, out of a G2 placed own sister to G2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Countless Times. She is of good size, high quality and a very athlete type overall.

Lot 66 –is a colt out of a winning half-sister to the great Variety Club. Connections say of him, “He is a well grown, neat, racy colt.” He was given a 8.5 by the panel.

Lot 117 –this filly, given 9.5,  is a well grown, leggy, good mover –in general a very nice filly. She is from the family of sprint stars Nobely Born and Trip Tease.

Lot 181 –yet another to get a 9.5 from the panel, this colt (a big, leggy, individual with a deep girth who moves well) is a half brother to Gold Bowl winner J’s Outsider among others.

Lot 229 – a good sized filly, packed with quality, she also received 9.5 and she is from the family of 2017 G1 winner and new French sire Al Wukair, as well as French Oaks winner Caerlina

Dr Ian Heyns is another with a Captain Of All yearling on the 2018 Premier Sale.  His filly, out of Doowaley mare Majestic Star, is catalogued as lot  63 and is a half-sister to recent G3 Victress Stakes winner Star Express and to recent Lady’s Bracelet third Star Burst Galaxy.

He says, “She is a classy filly in the mould of her sisters, and despite being a bit immature I feel I must take her to the Premier Sale!”

David Hepburn-Brown, of Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud,  is delighted by the filly he has on offer at the Premier Sale, saying, “ She is a lovely, racy filly with class and a magnificent temperament. I am really very happy with her!.”

The Hemel ‘N Aarde offered filly (Lot 127)  has already plenty of paddock value, as a half sister to G3 Christmas Handicap winner Rikitikitana and to G1 Thekwini Stakes second Rockin Russian.

Other farms consigning Captain Of All yearlings to the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale are Nadeson Park and Winterbach Stud.

Nadeson Park consign a colt out of a winning daughter of champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice and Queensland Oaks winner Zagalia (Lot 120), while the Winterbach Stud have a Captain Of All colt whose dam is a half-sister to the SA Oaks winning sisters Royal Prophecy and Noble Destiny – as well as to the dam of US G1 winner Gypsy’s Warning (Lot 137).
