Former triple Equus Champion What A Winter made it four winners from his last five runners (another runner was second) when his son What A Summer scorched home to register a breakthrough win at Durbanville on Tuesday.

Magical Wonderland

Bred by the Favour Stud, What A Summer became the30th  winner from his sire’s first crop when he romped to a 3.5 length maiden win over 1400m  for trainer Candice Bass-Robinson and jockey Aldo Domeyer on Tuesday.

Sent off the 2-1 favourite, What A Summer, who has won or placed in six of his seven outings, was an R850 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Leading First Crop Sire, and four time G1 winner, What A Winter, enjoyed a notable treble over the weekend highlighted by his daughter Magical Wonderland defeating a top class field of fillies and mares in the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes.

Magical Wonderland, a Cape champion at two, has now won five of seven outings and more than R660 000 in prize money.

Her sire What A Winter has a strong draft of 11 yearlings on this month’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, headed by a filly out of an Oaks winning own sister to a Horse Of The Year (Lot 34), a colt out of five time G1 winner Pacific Charm (Lot 90) and a full-sister to Cape Nursery winner Dutch Philip (Lot 165). The latter is a runner in Saturday’s G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes.
