Dahlia Plate triumph for The United States

10th May 2024

Moutonshoek’s successful resident sire The United States looks to have a smart two-year-old to his name this season in the form of Kingdundee.
The latter made it two wins from three starts when he captured the Listed Dahlia Plate (1200m) at Fairview on Friday.
Trained by Gavin Smith, Kingdundee was sent off the favourite for the 2024 Dahlia Plate. The colt duly lived up to expectations, as he stormed home, under Craig Zackey, to score by a head.
Bred and owned by Clive Murphy, Kingdundee had won impressively on debut before dead-heating for second, on his only previous appearance, in the Listed East Cape Nursery.
Kingdundee is out of the Duke Of Marmalade mare Miss Marmalade.
He joins debut winner Banff as a promising two-year-old representing The United States this season.
He is a winner of seven races including the G1 Ranvet Stakes. The United States shares his legendary sire Galileo with such outstanding stallions as Frankel, Teofilo, New Approach, Churchill, Gleneagles, Nathaniel, and Australia.
The chestnut had yearlings make up to R500 000 at the National Yearling Sale.
