Varsfontein Stud’s home-bred stallion Master Of My Fate is having another prolific season in 2023-2024, and the son of Jet Master struck again when his classy daughter Joy And Peace downed male rivals to claim the Listed TAB East Cape Derby (2400m) run at Fairview on Friday.
Joy And Peace is the second daughter of Master Of My Fate to win the East Cape Derby, with American Princess having triumphed in 2020.
Trained by Alan Greeff, Joy And Peace came into Friday’s R350 000 having won her last two starts and won the Listed East Cape Oaks by a length and three-quarters prior to her Derby win.
Under Kendal Minnie, the filly outclassed her male rivals in the East Cape Derby, with Joy And Peace motoring home to win as she liked by two and a quarter lengths.
Joy And Peace, who is out of the Spectrum mare Amazing Grace, was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein.
The 2024 TAB East Cape Derby winner was an R130 000 purchase from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale. Her win on Friday took Joy And Peace’s tally to five from 13 outings.
Her G2 Premier Trophy/G2 Peninsula Handicap winning sire Master Of My Fate has enjoyed some tremendous results this season, and, at the time of writing, he ranked fourth on the South African General Sires list for 2023-2024.
His stakes winners this season include not only Joy And Peace, but also the likes of Atticus Finch, Splicethemainbrace, and Princess Izzy. Master Of My Fate is also the sire of this season’s smart three-year-old My Soul Mate, runner-up in both the G2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks and the G2 TAB Igugu Stakes.
The Varsfontein sire also looks to have another promising sort to his name in the form of Talk To The Master, winner of two of four starts and runner-up in the Cape Racing Sales Cape Slipper.
