Dingaans win highlights Silvano Saturday treble

25th Nov 2018

The Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Silvano colt Hawwaam maintained his unbeaten record when scoring a hugely impressive victory in the G2 Dingaans at Turffontein on Saturday.

Hawwaam

Trained by Mike de Kock and ridden to victory Gavin Lerena, Hawwaam came from last to first, while weaving his way through his field to post an emphatic 3.4 length in the R500 000 contest –whose previous include such notable subsequent G1 winners as Horse Chestnut, Smart Money, Noah From Goa, Classic Flag, and Flight Alert.

A R1 000 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale, Hawwaam is now unbeaten in two outings, with the Silvano colt having scored an impressive win on debut when saluting in the historic whip-free maiden plate by a length.

In the process, Hawwaam became an 84th individual stakes winner for his multiple champion sire.

He was one of two feature race winners on the weekend for Silvano, with the latter’s son Streak Of Silver capturing the November Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

Out of the Jet Master mare Halfway To Heaven, the unbeaten Hawwaam is bred on the same Silvano/Jet Master cross as Derby winner Silvano’s Jet and Jamaica Handicap victress Omaticaya.

Silvano’s champion Vercingetorix

He is a second Dingaans winner for Silvano –whose son Silver Flyer won the Dingaans back in 2011, while another Silvano son, Vacquero,  ran third in last year’s Dingaans.

A Champion Sire on three occasions in South Africa (he also topped the General Sires List in Slovakia back in 2007), Silvano is currently responsible for more than 150 black type performers in general, with his black type winners headed by 20 individual G1 winners.

The son of Lomitas had three winners in South Africa on Saturday with Silvano daughters Silvano’s Pride and Artemisia winning at Kenilworth and Turffontein respectively.
Bred and owned by Anthony Peter, the beautifully bred Silvano’s Pride looks another smart 3yo for her sire, with the Silvano filly downing high class fillies Santa Clara and Coral Bay to land an progress plate at Kenilworth over 1600 metres.

Like Hawwaam, Silvano’s Pride is out of a Jet Master mare and she has now two of four starts with the promise of more to come.
